Y3 Fall 09 Runway Show

After the paparazzi extravaganza fueled by front row featuring Kim Kardashian, Reggie Bush, Mila Jovovich, and of course, Kanye and his crew subsided and energetic show began. Yohji Yammamoto’s Fall 2009 collection with Adidas featured his signature unique tailoring mixed with sporting shapes. My favorite look paired equestrian pants with a riding helmet and cropped varsity jacket. Sasha Pivovarova also looked great in the meanest pair of drop-crotch pleated pants of the show.

Yohji artfully created juxtapositions that made sense throughout the show. Futuristic prints and wrap-around shades looked fresh set with messy braids. Japanese minimalism, mostly in his signature black on black, punctuated by white and red stood out against a jazzy pop Carole King soundtrack (thanks again Shazam!).

Things were kept playful when a group of kids walked the runway (three times no less). The crowd exhibited a collective “awwwww” and a wave of flashes went off. With the high end kidswear market growing, chances are we’ll see more of this in the future. Don’t those sweatshirts look a lot like Snuggies…
