Every spring and summer, our favorite street style blogs are clogged with snapshots of leggy, hot pant-wearing festival attendees—VIP passes strung about their necks, red plastic beer cups in hand.
The scene may seem intimidating, but you, too, can be among this scantily-clad throngs, though, please, leave the booty shorts at home, won’t you? With the demand for music festivals higher than ever, there are literally hundreds—if not thousands—of musical festivals choose from, with more popping up every year.
So how to pick?
To make your life a little bit easier, we’ve rounded up the top music festivals from around the world that deliver the most memorable experiences based on location, atmosphere, party scene and—of course—music. The only thing left for you to decide is what to pack (our rule of thumb: the more feathers, the better).
What musical festivals might you visit this year?

Coachella is the place to see and be seen (and, somehow, we never get sick of the style snaps). This three-day festival takes place on two consecutive weekends in April, and lures A-list attendees with acts like Kanye West, Radiohead, and Snoop. 81-800 Avenue 51, Indio, California; coachella.com.

Held right along the Balearic Sea, the five-day Primavera Sound festival offers breathtaking views along with killer tunes. An added bonus is that all housing is off-site (good news if the idea of camping with a hundred thousand sweaty festival-goers gives you the icks). Parc del Forum, Barcelona, Spain; primaverasound.com.

Denmark's four-day Roskilde Festival opens campgrounds days before the first act, making it feel like a raucous, week-long party. For more adventurous festival-goers, a nude run around the campsite awards tickets to next year's festival for the winners. 4000 Roskilde County, Denmark; www.roskilde-festival.dk.

Bringing together some of the biggest names in rock since 1989, France's three-day Eurockeennes festival attracts thousands to the idyllic Malsaucy grounds to revel in great company and even better tunes (past acts have included The Cure and Lana Del Rey).  Belfort, Franche-Comté, France; eurockeennes.fr.

Pitchfork in Chicago has become one of the most reputable indie music resources around, with the potential to make or break an up-and-coming artist. With a more intimate, laid-back vibe than the larger festivals, Pitchfork is a great place to kick back and discover a new favorite band. Union Park, Chicago, Illinois; pitchforkmusicfestival.com.

For a truly unique music festival experience, Fuji Rock at the Naeba Ski Resort in Japan makes a great addition to the bucket list. The festival's stages are reachable only by forest trails and gondola rides. Between shows, you can cool off in a nearby creek, or scramble to the top of the mountain. Looking for rave fairies, flashing lights, and psychedelic surroundings? Belgium's trippy Tomorrowland festival features an impressive star-studded lineup of 400 DJs. Better start planning, though: last year's line-up sold 180,000 tickets within a few hours. Boom, Belgium; tommorrowland.be.

If you're looking for a reason to head Down Under, Splendour in the Grass, one of Australia's largest music festivals, is the ultimate musical excuse. The three-day event offers an incredible array of talent with campgrounds scattered around the elaborately decorated festival grounds. Bryon Bay, Australia; splendourinthegrass.com.

Since its founding in 1999, the four-day Oya Festival has grown to become one of our favorite events on the festival calendar. Located in the historic Medieval Park in central Oslo, Oya gives attendees a chance to revel in big international acts and promising up-and-comers among the ruins of the city's foundation. Bestival closes out the festival season each year with impressive lineups and pulsating party vibes. Complete with a "secret stage," a festival-wide fancy dress day, and other innovative oddities, this four-day festival is a cherry to top of a fabulous summer. Isle of Wright, England; bestival.net.
