Here’s what I’ve learned from my first season of attending shows at New York Fashion Week — no runway (besides Marc Jacobs, of course) ever starts on time. Understandably, these shows are huge productions, but I’d be remiss not to attribute most of the tardiness to the street-style scene outside.
Swarms of street-style photographers mob the sidewalks outside of the shows, hoping for that one perfect shot of an editor, celebrity, or more often than not, a blogger. And these individuals obviously play into that dynamic — if there’s ever a time to break out a kooky outfit or daring look, fashion week is it.
However, being a street-style star doesn’t mean you have to go all-out Anna Dello Russo — sometimes the perfect photographer bait is just one eye-catching piece.
Enter Sticky Baby, an indie clothing brand based in Brooklyn, whose pithy, tongue-in-cheek jackets provide endless street-style snapping opportunities.
From custom denim jackets to my personal favorite, their satin bombers, Sticky Baby’s phrase jackets serve up sass and style in equal measure. Each jacket features hand-made lettering and appliqués with a witty, street-smart twist that’s pure cool girl appeal. You’ll definitely find one in my closet before the next round of shows.
