Chunky, cozy plaids have been a winter staple, but it’s time for tartan’s lighter little sister to step in: Gingham.
The classic pattern—reminiscent of picnics and beachside bombshells like Brigitte Bardot—was spotted all over spring runways, from Diane von Furstenberg, who showcased the print in a classic mix of black and white with yellow accents, to Michael Kors, who opted for a springy pink take.
Gingham is innately youthful, but designers surely matured the print by adding high hems and low necklines, dangerously deep slits, and provocatively left-undone buttons.
