On our list of celebrity closets we’d most want to raid, Solange Knowles’s is right up near the top. Not only can the New Orleans dweller pull off a print like nobody’s business, she also has an enviable supply of statement dresses, brightly colored outerwear, and unconventional accessories to pull it all together. Now, she’s taking that aesthetic eye and lending it to a brand-new retail venture under the umbrella of her multimedia website, Saint Heron.
The store, which went live today, includes a carefully curated selection of exclusive products by up-and-coming designers of color, including off-the-shoulder dresses embellished with grommets and laces by Los Angeles–based Phlemuns, fluffy, jewel-toned pouches by handbag designer Morgan Parish, and small-batch skin care by nascent apothecary line Folie.
Launched in partnership with e-commerce platform Bigcommerce, the site will eventually expand to carry housewares, jewelry, and shoes in addition to the clothing, bags, accessories, and beauty products that are already live.
As Solange told Refinery29 at the store’s pop-up launch at SXSW, the shop hopes to be more than just another place to buy pretty clothes: “It’s really special that all of these women and men are designers of color. There’s a huge void in the fashion industry, in terms of supporting emerging designers of color. I’m really excited that Saint Heron is going to be a part of that conversation.”
