Okay, we know what you’re thinking: Palazzo pants are so ’60s … and ’70s. Oh, wait, and ’90s. While that’s indeed true, it seems the style has come back around just in time for Spring 2013, with scores of designers—including Alice + Olivia, Marc Jacobs, Celine, and Rachel Roy—embracing the extra-wide-leg trouser.
Believe it or not, palazzo pants—which are typically characterized by a super-wide leg and a high waist—can actually enhance the leg, making you appear taller (bonus!) Plus, they’re a slightly cooler but equally easy-breezy alternative to a maxi skirt, and can be styled similarly.
The trick to pulling off a pair of palazzos? Keep them as modern as possible by opting for full-length versions as opposed to cropped, and steering clear of super-psychedelic prints (way too “I’m a hippie for Halloween!”)
Instead, we’re loving this season’s crop of solid and subtly-printed versions that look beyond-chic with a T-shirt and structured blazer, a tucked-in chambray shirt, or a simple cropped tank. Let’s talk footwear: Grab a pair of wedge sandals or thick-heeled boots, which won’t only give you a boost, but also a legs-for-days appearance. Beat that, skinny jeans.
