With summer (sadly) beginning to wind down, we’re starting to get seriously excited about the many fall runway looks we’ve been thinking about copying ever since they hit the catwalk last February. Among our favorites: this Marc by Marc Jacobs look from his Fall/Winter 2012/2013 collection.

If you ask us, it’s the quintessential back-to-school style, integrating quirky preppiness with basic staples. An updated trench rendered in plaid is a breath of fresh air. Plus, we’re seeing Jenna Lyons (one of our biggest style crushes) all over this look. Though the look is entirely awesome, its hefty price tag, well, isn’t.

Here, we share comparable options that will have you looking just as cool without breaking your bank.
