For every other big red carpet, we obviously put our judging caps on, picking apart every celebrity’s outfit and getting ready to critique every little fashion misstep. But not at the VMAs — here, music’s elite can get a little crazy in the wardrobe department, and we love it.

Today, MTV announced the nominations for the 2012 Video Music Awards — and frankly, we’re a bit surprised. Rihanna and Drake lead the crowd with five nominations each, while previous VMA favorite Lady Gaga was completely snubbed. Has Mother Monster’s creativity finally fallen flat in the almighty eyes of MTV?
