A Case for the Bright-Red Day Dress

Gucci’s buzzy new creative director Alessandro Michele walked a red long-sleeve ruffled dress down the label’s Fall 2015 runway, and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. I’ve always had a thing for the color red, but there was something about the dress’s swishy fit, the lipstick-like shade, and the cool-girl accessories (tortoiseshell eyeglasses, limp hair, flats) that made me fall in love with it—and spend a dangerous chunk of my free time obsessively hunting for similar versions.

What’s so special about this particular look is the fact that it can be worn almost anywhere, from a cocktail party to the office—a nice change, given how often the bold color is associated with va-va-voom eveningwear.

I’m going to take a shot in the dark and assume we don’t all have $4,900 to shell out for the Gucci version, so here are 12 other chic red dresses that can absolutely be worn in broad daylight this fall.
