The world is reeling from the news that Prince—style icon, musical legend, master performer—died today at the age of 57. As an artist, he pushed the boundaries of fashion, identity, and propriety, and left an indelible mark on fans and the culture at large.

No one else could exude such raw sexual magnetism while dressed in a crop top, or take the stage at an awards show dressed in an assless yellow suit. He cycled through signature pieces—ruffled blouses, brocade jackets, out-there eyewear—performed in unforgettable tour costumes, and pulled off just about every hairstyle in the book during his more than 30-year career.

While somewhere deep down, we’re pretty certain he’s immortal, there’s no denying his singular presence will be missed.

Ahead, we’ve compiled some the best moments—of which there were too many to count—in tribute to his legendary style.
