Last season, Miuccia Prada rebelled against conformity with a buzzed-about spring collection, combining shaken-up Japanese influences (stiffly-folded garments, odd geisha-inspired footwear, leather socks bound with bows) with literal floral prints (boxy bags, strong-framed glasse, and oversized fur coats festooned with pop-art daisies).

For fall, it seems Prada veered back to her to her roots with a collection that prominently featured deconstructed 1950s silhouettes—below-the-knee hemlines, defined waists, a bit of gingham—all modernized by the fact that many of the looks were askew just so, the best example of this being evening dresses (shiny black, gold lamé) that were belted and shown with a falling-off-the-shoulder heather gray henley underneath.

Other standouts included a tweedy blue-green swingy skirt and matching jacket with oversize fur cuffs, a ballet-pink satin off-the-shoulder dress shown over a long-sleeve black shirt, colored leather trench coats, and Prada’s signature clunky shoes.

Overall, this collection is grown-up, slyly sexy, and just a little off in the best way possible.
