While some women won’t dream of leaving the house without slipping on a pair of socks, the warmer weather sure makes a strong case for ditching them altogether.
But to be clear, we’re not talking about going foot-commando for sandals or other open-toed shoes, which would be all too obvious. We actually think the best kinds of no-sock looks are for the chunkier transitional footwear fit for the spring-to-summer weeks—say, a pair of heeled boots, sneakers, or oxfords.
To determine whether or not socks are going to be an outfit buzzkill, consider the following questions and opt out as you will:
- Are my bottoms so statement-worthy that socks would be overload?
- Are my shoes equally statement-worthy that socks just won’t fit into the equation?
- Is the pant hem or finish interesting enough that it respectfully deserves breathing room?
If you answered yes to any of the above, it’s time to practice the bare-foot-in-shoe maneuver—or, invest in several pairs of no-show liner socks.
