Last night’s magical night at the New York City Opera was truly something special. The concert, called American Voices, was prefaced with a speech given by David H. Koch. With the rather conservative audience raucously cheering him on like a rock star, Koch spoke about his generous donation to Lincoln Center which enabled the massive renovations done to his namesake hall.
The performance itself featured one remarkable voice after another, a highlight being a particularly disturbing play on the horrors of the religiously devout. The New York City Ballet performed a moving number accompanied by a piano duet that literally had me in tears by the end of it, and Rufus Wainwright also made a special stage appearance.
Everything from the immaculately turned out audience (think ball gowns, diamonds, and furs) to the near-perfect performance was thrilling enough to leave my date and I with just enough energy to slurp down some hot soup at cozy Dok Suni in the East Village before turning in for the night.

Waiting for the performance to begin. I’m wearing an emerald green Stella McCartney dress, Wolford tights, and Christian Louboutin booties.
Watching the warm-up. I still love exposed zippers on dresses.
The detail on this Stella McCartney dress is gorgeous. Necklace by David Yurman.
My shoes are surprisingly comfortable.
This little white mink fur by J. Mendel is my current obsession. It’s the perfect winter piece to throw on for any evening event.
