Every year, luxury lovers wait with bated breath to see which fantasy items made the cut for Neiman Marcus’ annual The Christmas Book. Last year the catalogue included a $250,000 dinner for ten hosted by chefs including Daniel Boulud and Thomas Keller and $1,090,000 his and hers Van Cleef & Arpels watches.
Well, the 2013 catalogue has just been unveiled and rest assured it doesn’t disappoint—the items are just as crazy ever. Some of standouts include a $150,000 falconry set (we didn’t realize that falconry was even a hobby outside of Downton Abbey) and a $1.85 million “diamond experience” that includes getting your own 25-carat diamond and then tracing where it’s from with a trip around the world.
You’re probably wondering who actually buys this stuff (to be honest, so are we), but we can tell you this: Someone definitely is. In fact, last year, the 12 special edition McLaren 12C Spider sports cars offered up at $354,000 each sold out in just two hours.
Here, we’ve rounded up the 8 most awesomely luxe items from the catalogue above to scroll through! If you can’t shop like a one-percenter this holiday season, at least you can know what they’re buying for each other.
Bespoke Global Falconry Companion
We personally don't know any falconry hobbyists, but there must be some among Neiman Marcus' big shoppers. This package includes a 20-karat gold-plated perch, leather cases, leaded crystal decanters, a handmade backgammon board, hand-made gloves and an “exotic-skin hood."
And we thought spending $34 on a SoulCycle class was expensive. That is until we read about the Ciclotte. This bike is based on unicycles from the 1800s and comes complete with 12 different resistance speeds. It also gives new meaning to designer exercise.
The Glass House Experience
You've always wanted private access to an architectural landmark and now you can have it. With this package you and nine of your closest friends can head to the Philip Johnson-designed home in New Canaan, Connecticut for dinner prepared with locally-sourced ingredients.
2014 Aston Martin Vanquish Volante
Crazy, but true, the seriously expensive cars that Neiman Marcus sells in its fantasy catalogue each year usually sell out, and this will probably be no exception. This Aston Martin is one of only 10 in the world, and can reach speeds of up to 180 miles per hour. Naturally, it comes with its own set of bespoke luggage.
Jeff Koons Dom Perignon Balloon Venus
Jeff Koons designed a polyurethan resin case for Dom Perignon so not only will you get a piece of one of the most important living artists with this package you'll also get some seriously expensive champagne to go along with it. That should make the $20,000 price tag easier to swallow—maybe.
Indian Larry’s “Wild Child” Motorcycle
This motorcyle was designed by one of the important bike builders in the world. And yes it is expensive. Very expensive.
Ultimate Outdoor Entertainment System
Cost: $1.5 million
The catalogue says of this entertainment system that emerges from the ground: “As you marvel at this epic theater experience, you wonder how the two of you ever managed to enjoy at-home movies before now." Yes, watching movies on your laptop will never look the same after this. Thanks for that Neimans.
Forevermark Ultimate Diamond Experience
Cost: $1.85 million
First, you'll get to own a 25-carat rough cut diamond and then you'll get to explore where it came from with this package. You'll start in London at the Debeers headquarters, where you'll pick up your diamond, and meet the craftsman who will cut and polish it. After that, you’ll tour the Tower of London and the Crown Jewels, then hop on a boat to Namibia to see where it was sourced. The last leg of the trip is in New York City where you'll get to design the ring of your dreams.
