There are few things in life more satisfying than a good celebrity feud—the keyword being good. And judging from Kim Kardashian West‘s erratic social media clapbacks to her naked selfie earlier, it’s apparent we’re in dire need of some shade thrown the right way.
Thankfully, Mariah Carey, diva extraordinaire, has risen to the occasion to deliver some of the most skillful insults we’ve seen in a while with a tasteful jab at Jennifer Lopez, her supposed arch-enemy in a continuing feud that spans over 15 years.
It started back in the early 2000s, when Mariah was asked about It-girl J.Lo during an interview. Her response went something like this:
Of course, even in the pre-Internet days, it became the stuff of legends, leading to Mariah even getting a shirt from a fan with her response emblazoned on it.
However, it takes two to feud, and Jennifer’s still getting asked about the incident (and sending some friendly fire toward Mimi’s camp). Last week, she appeared on Watch What Happens Live, where she told Andy Cohen that there was “no feud” despite the fact that she didn’t see Mariah’s show before beginning her own residency in Vegas (she did find time, however, to see Celine Dion, Britney Spears, and Shania Twain) and that she was caught texting during Mariah’s performance during the Billboard Awards.
Then she went on Wendy Williams‘ show later that week and proceeded to tell Williams that despite the fact that she and Carey have met multiple times, Mariah must be “forgetful” if she doesn’t know who she is.
Which, honestly, is probably why last night, Mariah responded to a reporter from TMZ who asked her why people are still referencing her “I don’t know her” moment years later and Carey hit him with a sassy, “I still don’t know her!” before walking to her limo.
After all that, we need a moment (thankfully, Mariah has us covered on that front, too).
