One reason to get tickets to “The Legend of Tarzan” this summer: Margot Robbie and Alexander Skarsgård have some seriously “primal” sex scenes in the jungle. Both stars acknowledged that things got pretty real on set in interviews with E! News. “Our director [David Yates] wanted it to be primal and animalistic,” Skarsgård said. “When they have their first sex scene in that little village that she lived in as a teenager, David kind of egged us on and wanted it to feel very primal, and so—she beat me up.”

Skarsgård worked out like a maniac for this film, which can only add to the steamy vibe. “I obviously had a very, very good trainer,” he told E! News. “I basically had him and a nutritionist. I’ve never done anything like this before this extreme. I was just really nervous. It was a big challenge and I didn’t know how my body would respond to the training and diet.” Spoiler alert: It responded really, really well.

Robbie played coy in regard to the whole thing. “Look, what happens on set stays on set, but I didn’t injure him or anything,” she said. “I guess we got caught up in the moment. I didn’t punch him in the face. I’m getting a bad rep that I hit all my costars. I didn’t punch him. Not hard. He can take it. He’s a big boy.” OK—so she punched him, but not that hard, then?

Yates previously spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the sex scenes in the film, which opens July 1, and was just as candid as Skarsgård. “They’re doing this love scene together, and I said [to Robbie], ‘Just slap Alex while you’re making love, just kind of give him a punch,'” he said. “It was sort of an earthy, sensual moment of her enjoying sex with Alex, and the only bruise he picked up during the entire shoot was probably that punch from Margot. Which says a lot about her feistiness.” Considering that Skarsgård told “E!” that a trapeze artist performed most of the “crazy” stunts, that makes sense. “He did the amazing stuff, and then I came back and did the landing,” Skarsgård said. Oh, and the sex scenes with Robbie.
