When Lindsay Ellingson opens the door to her Chelsea apartment, her adorable cockapoo Carly is the first to greet us. Ellingson is standing there in a Maison Margiela sweater dress that shows off her Victoria’s Secret–model body.

“Is this OK for the photo shoot?. I’ve had it for a few seasons now, but it’s one of my favorites.”

The Margiela dress was a perfect choice, reflective of her approach to fashion—effortlessness is a word that comes up often in our conversation. She’s applied that same methodology to her new makeup line, Wander Beauty, which is a tightly edited collection of only the most essential products. Here, the brand’s cofounder and creative director gives us the scoop.

How would your describe your style?
I’m from California, and even though I have been in New York City for 10 years and have traveled the world, I always like to have an element of comfort. I love a pop of color; one of my favorite bags is a little red Céline bag I’ve had forever.

Emmanuelle Alt is a big style icon—she’s always so chic but with a touch of boyishness. And another one is Grace Kelly. She always had that effortlessness, but loved to dress up too.

Is there a piece of clothing or jewelry you never leave home without?
Besides my wedding band and ring, I always wear a pair of Wendy Nichol earrings. My husband got them for me for my anniversary, so they’re extra special.

What are some of your favorite places to hang out in New York City?
I’m at Cookshop all the time with my dog. I love to walk down to [Manhattan’s] Meatpacking District to shop at places like Jeffrey. The Whitney is a great place to people watch; I love the whole neighborhood there.

In addition to modeling, you have your new makeup line, Wander Beauty. What’s coming up?
Our new collection is inspired by Paris. That’s where I started my career 10 years ago. It’s where I fell in love with fashion, high heels, bakeries, etc., so it means a lot to me. I love the way Parisian women approach beauty, it’s so effortless.
