Last night while you were sleeping, Kendrick Lamar released a brand-new album with no warning, entitled Untitled Unmastered, proving that Beyoncé isn’t the only one who can do late-night surprise album drops. The eight-track album, which was teased out in a Spotify leak earlier today, features songs without titles, labeled (presumably) by dates from sessions while Lamar was creating his last studio album, To Pimp a Butterfly in 2013 and 2014.
The pared-down titles and songs of the album, however, aren’t so much an album as a “project” between albums. It’s his second release in less than a year, after his Grammy-sweeping TPAB.
And because Kendrick isn’t trying to make you fork over that $12.99 a month for Tidal like some other artists we know, the album is available on Apple Music, Spotify, iTunes, and Tidal.
