Kate Winslet to Channel Her Inner Westwood

I’ve loved British actress Kate Winslet ever since her starring role in The Titanic, which I saw in the movie theatre a record-breaking FOUR TIMES. Yes, I sat through all four hours, no joke, four times. I was a (17-year-old) girl obsessed. Since then, Winslet has indeed proved to be one of the most talented actresses of our time, taking the lead in such acclaimed films as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Little Children, and (my hands-down favorite) The Holiday with Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, and Jack Black (rom-com’s are the best, duh).

Yes, Winslet has won an undying fan in me. That’s why I was so excited to hear official confirmation today that she will play legendary fashion designer Vivienne Westwood in an upcoming biopic on the designer’s life. I couldn’t think of a more perfect fit: brilliant designer/brilliant actress, known for quirky and challenging film roles/known for quirky and inventive clothing, brave and intelligent woman/brave and intelligent woman. It shouldn’t be such a stretch for Winslet to play a woman with which she has so much in common, but knowing her, she’ll take it and run farther with it than anyone expects.

One thing’s for sure–I’ll be first in line at my local Chelsea theatre on opening day.
