After news broke yesterday that Prince had passed away at the age of 57, the Internet was flooded with moving tributes. Our favorite, though, is the footage of this tear-jerking performance by Jennifer Hudson and the cast of Broadway musical, “The Color Purple.”
After the musical, Hudson and her costar Cynthia Erivo honored Prince by leading the cast through a cover of “Purple Rain,” in New York last night.
“Not too long ago, [Prince] called me while we were here and asked me to come out to this event because he was writing his book, and he told me you can bring your cast members along. We were honored to be in his presence one last time and we got to have that moment,” Hudson told the audience. “He said his music will live on and he will live through his music so we want to keep him alive today with this song.”
