Last week, Italian Stallions came out in droves to say “ciao” to Replay’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection, the first line designed by Creative Director Gigi Vezzola. Though I had been given a full introduction to the line at their Soho store, Cip’s bellinis make everything look so much better, especially accompanied by their signature chunks of Parmigiano Reggiano. Indeed, the sleeker, more tailored label looked less Jon Gosselin and more Agnelli; think dark slim-cut jeans, fitted blazers, and clean, less logo-fied tees.
A new crowd of Replay ambassadors sporting the brand included Ignazio Cipriani, who is running his family’s Cipriani empire, DJ and artist Francesco Civetta and pianist Francesca Fronti, Discovery Channel’s Green personality Summer Rayne Oakes, the ubiquitous Jessie Leavitt, P.C. of Bravo’s NYC Prep (seriously, does anyone check their IDs?), fashion guru Patrick McDonald, Paper‘s Mickey Boardman, model Annabel Vartanian and designer Miguelina Gambaccini.
While I headed over with team StyleCaster (Carol Han and Ari Goldberg) to the Cooper Square Hotel, editors like David Lipke and Bryan Levandowski wisely stayed for plates of Rigatoni Alla Genovese, homemade Spaghetti All’ Amatriciana and Pappardelle Alla Bolognese. If I had known there’d be Cipriani pasta (which the recession has cut out of my income bracket), I would have never said Arrivederci. Well played indeed. The Italian Job: Replay owners GiamPaolo Buziol and Silvia Buziol pose with Ignazio Cipriani and Luca Tognozzi.
