We admit it: we’re summer junkies. We love nothing more than relaxing by the pool and catching some rays, but our hair? Not so much. Between the sun, chlorine, salt water and wind, summertime can be exceptionally damaging to our locks. The easy fix? Hair masks.

Not only are masks a great way to give your hair some extra love, they’re super easy to DIY; there are plenty of natural ingredients out there that work perfectly together to revitalize your dried out ‘do. Here are 7 of the best homemade hair masks guaranteed to give you the locks of your dreams!

Banana Honey Hair Mask

1 banana
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup plain yogurt

Puree the banana into a smooth mixture before adding in the other ingredients to avoid any chunks that could get stuck in your hair. The banana is packed with vitamins, antioxidants, potassium and added moisture, making it the perfect thing to help revitalize dried-out hair. It’ll work to strengthen hair follicles while promoting a healthy scalp. Mash the banana, then stir in the honey and yogurt, mixing well until you have a smooth yet thick consistency. Allow the mixture to soak in hair for 15-30 minutes, then rinse well. (

Egg and Olive Oil Hair Mask

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 egg

Used in hair masks since ancient times, olive oil is full of moisture and nourishment to help replenish dry hair. Loaded with Vitamin E and healthy fats, the oil works to hydrate brittle ends while strengthening hair to prevent further breakage. Whisk the ingredients all together and let it sit on your hair for 20 minutes, then rinse well. For longer hair, double the amount of ingredients in the recipe. (

Avocado and Honey Hair Mask

1 medium-sized avocado
2 tablespoons honey

With only two ingredients, this mask has amazing moisturizing and softening properties. Avocado contains four different Vitamins: A, B, E and D, along with healthy fats and other natural oils that will also add shine and prevent hair loss. To make, simply mash the avocado into a fine puree, then stir in the honey. Let the mask sit for 15-20 minutes to fully absorb into your hair. It also works as a great scalp treatment, so make sure to massage the mixture into your roots to promote stimulation. (

Coconut Milk Hair Mask

2 drops lavender oil
2 tablespoons coconut milk

Coconut milk works as a natural moisturizer for your hair, particularly hair that is brittle or breaking, which makes this an amazing mask for sun-baked strands. Mix the lavender oil into the milk, then apply the mixture from root to tip, making sure that every strand is coated. This is meant to be an overnight mask, so sleep with your hair in a shower cap to prevent it from staining your sheets, then shampoo and condition in the morning to reveal hydrated, healthy hair. Avocado and Egg Hair Mask

1/2 an avocado
2 eggs
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

The egg yolk found in this hair mask will turn dry, summer hair into silky locks by deep conditioning from root to tip. The avocado is packed with B-vitamins and healthy fats that will definitely make your hair shine. To make this mask, puree the avocado and then slowly stir in the eggs and olive oil. Leave the hair mask on as long as you want, but make sure to rinse with cold water before shampooing and conditioning; hot water could make the egg yolk cook—and that’s definitely not something you want to deal with! (

Strawberry Hair Mask

8 strawberries
2 tablespoons of mayonnaise

Strawberries are amazing fruits: they protect the cell membranes of the scalp due to the potent antioxidants found in them, while mayo is a source of healthy fats. Mash up the strawberries, and mix the two ingredients into a cream before applying it to wet hair and letting it sit for 15 minutes. Rinse well and marvel at your healthy hair! (

Coconut Oil and Honey Hair Mask

Coconut Oil and Honey Hair Mask

1/2 cup melted coconut oil
1/2 cup honey
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

We already know apple cider vinegar and coconut oil are beauty musts, and it turns out that they’re even better with honey: together, these ingredients have antibacterial and antioxidant properties to promote a healthy scalp, while also keeping your hair hydrated (but not weighed down). Microwave the coconut oil to met it, then mix the ingredients together to avoid separation, and leave on hair for up to 30 minutes. (
