Gilt Editor’s Perfect (Foolproof!) Outfit

As we get dressed in the morning, time seems to tick by faster and faster, and we need go-to pieces more badly than ever. (Blame it on waking up with less sunlight). But we’ve figured out an outfit formula that works any time of the day, from rushing to work to heading out to dinner with pals to easy weekend brunches.
Start with one of our favorite pieces of clothing: the jersey dress. It can be loose and easy as a weekend maxi, more structured as a work sheath, figure-defining in a patterned wrap dress, or seriously sexy in a draped mini for nights out. One styling tip: Keep things smooth underneath with control top hose and a seamless T-shirt bra.
Now, add a cropped leather jacket that can double as a blazer if you’re chilly inside. A scarf is a fall must-have—pick a solid or a print depending on your dress choice. Don’t be scared to go print-on-print, just make sure the colors are complementary and not clashing. An ankle bootie is weekend cool but can look polished at the office.
