If you’ve spent the last few months anxiously waiting to discover the fate of the buzziest “Game of Thrones” character, Jon Snow, we’ve got some… possibly good news?

HBO just released the first teaser trailer for season six of the wildly-popular fantasy series, and in a maddening development for fans of Snow—or just his super-luscious locks—the answers aren’t exactly clear.

The short video features a voiceover saying how “the past is already written” and “the ink is dry.” Cryptic. Fans of the show remember that that Snow was betrayed by fellow members of the Night’s Watch in the Season 5 finale and (spoiler alert!) left for dead in a pool of blood. Since then, the show’s creators have been toying with our emotions, dropping small hints that in the world of GoT, “dead is dead.”

But is he really?

There are precious few other clues in the trailer for those hoping to see Snow seek his revenge on the thousand or so people who betrayed him—in fact, the trailer is more or less just a 45-second recap of all of the awful, heart-wrenching deaths and moments of violence that have become the show’s hallmark.

But things aren’t entirely hopeless. In what is possibly the worst-kept secret in all of television history, fan site Watchers on the Wall has spotted actor Kit Harington, who plays Snow, on-location in Belfast, Ireland. Of course, this could just be producers messing with us again by filming flashback scenes.

Whether or not Snow is alive, dead, or somewhere in between, we’ll have to wait until the new season premieres in April to know for sure. Watch the full trailer below. Winter is coming.
