Your Fourth will probably include its fair share of barbecue, grilled corn, and glittering fireworks. But with a little bit of planning, your star-spangled celebration could include some actual stars, too.
This year, A-listers from Mariah Carey to Taylor Swift are flocking to Macy’s annual Fourth of July spectacular (complete with Hudson River fireworks), while more low-key celebs are opting for local parades in Huntington Beach and the Pacific Palisades.
Looking for something a little more refined to fete the Fourth? Josh Grobin’s performance at the Hollywood Bowl offers a dose of high culture along with sparkly explosions.
BOSTON: The only thing Boston loves more than politics and baseball is a good fireworks display. For this summer's festivities, the city tapped Susan Tedeschi, Ellis Hall, Howie Day, and Ayla Brown to lend their talents to "Boston Pops." which will be led by former Red Sox second baseman, Keith Lockhart.
NEW YORK CITY: Macy's annual Independence Day spectacular outshines the rest—even DC. This year, hair whipping diva Mariah Carey headlines the two-hour live concert preceeding the Hudson River fireworks—which will apparently be "curated" by Usher, though we can't say we know what that even means.
NEW YORK CITY: This week, Macy's announced that diva-in-training Selena Gomez will also be performing for its Fourth of July spectacular. Our patriotic outfit prediction: some kind of star splangled boustier designed for maximum Bieber-evenge.
NEW YORK CITY: If that's not enough pop star-wattage for you, pre-teen queen Taylor Swift is also joining the Fourth of July line-up.
PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIFORNIA: This unassuming neighborhood in southern California is a hideaway for many LA A-listers. This year, Ed Asner will serve as grand marshall for the town parade (a position formerly held by Anthony Hopkins) while Foo Fighter guitarist Chris Shiflett will headline a two-and-a-half hour concert in the local stadium.
ATLANTIC CITY: The Atlantic City boardwalk makes a terrific backdrop for the city's annual Fourth of July spectacular. This year, the much buzzed-about Kevin Rudolph will stage a free concert at the Kennedy Plaza.
WASHINGTON DC: Hit The Capitol for an inspiring fireworks show that surrounds the entire National Mall. Of course, if you're more interested in sparkling celebs than literal sparklers, don't miss the "Capitol Fourth" concert, which will feature Barry Manilow and Neil Diamond.
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIFORNIA: The theme of this year's Huntington Beach Fourth of July parade is "surf, sun, and celebrate." This year, you can enjoy the marching bands and general oom-pah-pah along with Lou Ferrigno and Nicole Eggert (of Baywatch fame), who will take part in the festivities.
LOS ANGELES: Not only does the Hollywood Bowl have top-notch fireworks displays, but it has killer acoustics, too, which is why a seat at this year's Josh Grobin concert with the LA Philharmonic is likely be one of the most sought-after in the country come July 4.
PHILADELPHIA: As the nation's first capitol, it's no surprise that Philly takes its July Fourth celebrations pretty seriously. This year, the city recruited Demi Lovato, John Mayer, and Jill Scott to perform at its "July Jam Concert" hosted by comedian Kevin Hart.
