Kitty Cash released her mixtape series Love the Free, featuring Dev Hynes, Willow Smith, and SZA, last year. That was followed by loads of well-deserved press dubbing 2014 as the Brooklyn native’s breakout year. It wasn’t just the publicist-turned-DJ’s dreamy mixes that caught everyone’s attention—her expert fashion choices had heads turning too.

How would you describe your style?
I love to have fun with my style! I try to bring out pieces of my personality through mixing colors, textures, patterns, and silhouettes.

How would you define New York City style?
New York style is all about individuality and attitude. I would say my New York style is sexy with an urban edge.

Is there a piece of clothing or an accessory you never leave home without?
I have a few pieces I love, like my Kitty Cash nameplate necklace. It’s a must! I love it because of its simplicity. I also love my A.L.C. nail bracelet. It’s a brass nail cuff my boyfriend got for me. I think it’s a pretty tough and badass piece and shows my edgy side.

What are some of your favorite restaurants and stores in the city?
The Ship—no matter what time of day it feels like it’s 11 p.m. The interior makes you feel as if you’re in a vessel, and the drinks are so on point. Downstairs at Lovely Day is super-quaint and feels like you’re at your friend’s house. The vibe is really relaxed and chill. Employees Only—I love a good speakeasy, and there is just something sexy about it. Reformation—my go-to when I just need something that fits me perfectly and can go from day-to-night.
