Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield have reportedly broken up—and this time, it seems like it’s for good. Sob.
The couple and Amazing Spider-Man costars—who also happen to be one of our favorite pairs in Hollywood—had been together for four years.
This isn’t the first time we’ve caught news of a breakup: Rumors swirled in April that the pair were taking a break from the relationship, but just a month later, they were spotted holding hands in Malibu. Around the same time, Stone was snapped greeting Garfield’s mom and dad with a hug and kiss at a screening of her summer flick, Aloha. We thought all was repaired, but apparently it wasn’t.
According to Us Weekly, the couple called it quits for good a couple months ago, and a source told the tabloid: “They still have a lot of love for one another, and they are on good terms with each other and remain close … It just wasn’t working.”
There’s still hope though: Neither Stone nor Garfield have confirmed the rumors; both have kept quite mum about their relationship since they started dating in 2011.
“See, I never talk about this stuff for this exact reason—because it’s all so speculative and baseless,” Stone told the Wall Street Journal when asked about her relationship with Garfield following the couple’s first break. “I understand the interest in it completely, because I’ve had it too. But it’s so special to me that it never feels good to talk about, so I just continually don’t talk about it.”
