We’re hopeful packers over here–unlike most (normal) people who despise the process of collecting our nearest and dearest items and smooshing them into a small (read: insanely huge, like no really–we could probably fit into it) bag. For us, there’s something about the excitement of all the fun outfits we’ll be sporting on a beach with a cocktail in hand as we doze off to the sound of the ocean.

Needless to say, we need to be strategic so we still have options (a girl can’t live without choices!) without breaking our backs. That’s why, as you all hopefully are preparing for your own holiday excursions, we decided to break down key essentials if you’re venturing out to the coast for a little R&R and a lot of sun, and will set you on course for being totally ready if a spontaneous trip pops up this summer.

Click through the slideshow to see what items you need to bring to be prepared for any occasion on the fly.

Heading to the beach this Memorial Day weekend? Be sure to include some of these must-haves in your suitcase!

No one loves having raccoon eyes from getting a bit too much sun while wearing your sunglasses. A nice, large straw hat will keep the sun out of your eyes and sunburn unlikely.

Asymmetric Straw Hat, $30, at Nasty Gal.

Still getting into bikini shape? We're obsessed with this adorable one-piece that's adorable with it's tribal print and hides all the right areas.

Trendy One-Piece, $44.99, at Mango.

Between the sunscreen, beach read and towel, a small bag just won't cut it. We're obsessed with this printed tote that is perfect on the sand or in the city.

Rebecca Minkoff Leopard Print Denim 'Toki Tote' Bag, $69, at Bluefly.

A cover-up is totally essential when it comes to heading to the coast. We love options that are simple to transition from the beach to the bar.

Dress, $17.95, at H&M.

A good pair of sunnies goes a long way, we're really feeling tortoise shell frames at the moment and paired with the round frames? Perfection.

Karen Walker Super Duper Strength Sunglasses, $250, at Revolve Clothing.

Stuck on sandals? We're completely dying over the bow detail on these puppies!

Mellow Yellow 'Liu' Flat, $88, at Far Fetch.
