2012 has been an especially big year for architecture—and it’s isn’t even over yet.
From London’s towering glass “Shard”—now the tallest building in the European Union—to the twisting steel doughnut of the Phoenix International Media Center in Beijing, architects are pushing the envelope with structures that defy belief and, by the looks of things, a few laws of gravity.
Okay, maybe they don’t actually contradict the laws of physics, but we dare you to figure out how these 10 insane-looking buildings were built.
