I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again — fashion people really know how to party. The Council of Fashion Designers (CFD) /Vogue Magazine Fashion Fund threw quite a shindig last night to fete the latest and greatest in fashion design. Every year the CFDA in partnership with Vogue comes together to raise money and select one grand prize winner who not only snags major bragging rights but also $300,000 to fund their future business.
Fashion may at times seem really glamorous (not really, but OK), but you’re not always rackin’ up the dough, so a lot of money like this goes a long way toward creating samples and marketng your collection to bigwig execs and annoyingly picky fashion editors and writers like moi. (Just watch Project Runway to get an idea of what I’m talking about.)
This year, they decided to crown newbie designer Joseph Altuzarra as their official “IT” kid of 2011. Altuzarra started as an intern at Marc Jacobs (stick with it fellow interns, you’ll get there!), went on to Proenza Schouler and then finally landed at Givenchy before starting his own line.
Altuzarra was already pretty awesome but his name just gained some serious street cred thanks to this HUGE nod. Congratulations are in order for Mr. Altuzarra! VIVA LA ALTUZARRA!
