How to Spend a Day in NYC Like a Style Star

How to Spend a Day in NYC Like a Style Star

We can collectively agree that there’s a magic that surfaces as springtime blooms: The last of the snow melts, temperatures rise ever so confidently, and the sun happily lingers later than usual. Those of us residing on the tumultuous East Coast can especially relate to the feeling of warmth-rebirth happening right now—with layers shedding off unabashedly and open-toed sandals revealing finally naked toes.

But the style transition from winter to spring still takes a bit of finesse. For those who are confused about being completely over- or under-dressed, have no fear. In the slideshow above, we enlisted multihyphenate style star Christine Cameron—the writer, editor, and stylist behind My Style Pill—to show us her favorite NYC haunts in two foolproof spring outfits from H&M you can emulate for yourself.

Where I work: Café Minerva, West Village

"I have been working from home since 2009, and after a while it can feel a little isolating. Because I am a people person, I tend to seek out good coffee shops from time to time to get out of the house and feel like I am a part of something bigger."

"The West Village is always my go-to for cafes, and more often than not, I end up at Café Minerva. I love that you can nurse a cup of coffee or two while using the cafe's Wi-Fi all morning. Plus, it has really good food, as well as wine … every bottle is $20! That’s a win-win in my book!"

"My day often consists of sitting in front of my computer, crafting blog posts, and answering emails, so I want to make sure I feel comfortable in what I’m wearing. Shift dresses like this one from H&M are my favorite because they're loose and flowy, which is exactly what I love. They can also be dressed up or down simply by throwing on various jackets or shoes. Whenever I want to look pulled together and elevate the casualness of a dress, I opt for a slightly cropped jean jacket and a pair of strappy sandals."

Where I eat and shop: Chelsea Market, Chelsea

"I love Chelsea Market because it’s a very cool, historic building that keeps changing, offering more and more amazing vendors to experience, not only in terms of food and wine but also fun pop-ups and specialty shops as well."

"You can definitely easily spend an entire afternoon inside Chelsea Market, wandering and eating your way through the various shops and eateries it has."

Where I like to get away: The Highline, Meatpacking District

"Chelsea Market is right next to the Highline, which is another favorite place of mine! You can grab lunch inside the Market, then head on up to the elevated park above the city and enjoy the amazing views it has to offer. Every time friends visit from out of town, I take them to the Highline in the Meatpacking District to show them this beautiful and unique green space, which can feel rare in New York."

"The walkway lifts you up above the busy city, and you can enjoy it on an elevated level, literally, because it used to be an old train track. I love walking along and taking in not only the cityscape but the Hudson River view as well, which is breathtaking at sunset."

"I love playing with color, so I'm immediately drawn to jackets like this one. For contrast, I paired it with an off-the-shoulder lace top and distressed white jeans to help ground the busy pattern. I like to keep the rest of the look simple with monochromatic accents and elevated basics."
