Celebrity relationships obviously cannot be sustained. Okay, that might be a bit of an overstatement, but it certainly feels that way considering the volume of famous-people break-ups taking place on what seemed like a daily basis in 2015
Here, 15 particularly shocking celebrity breakups, and let us know which ones surprised you most—and which ones you saw coming from a mile away.
Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale
After 13 years together and three sons, these two announced their split in August. Gwen rebounded nicely thanks to a shiny new romance with “The Voice” co-coach Blake Shelton, and a new hit called “Used to Love You.”
Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck
After 10 years of marriage and three kids, Affleck and Garner released a joint statement to People in June confirming their divorce. Still, the two have been spotted together several time since, prompting speculation that a reconciliation is possible.
Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick
After nine years and three kids, the two reality stars—who never officially tied the knot—parted ways in July, likely due to Disick’s incessant partying and general lack of responsibility. As is the Kardashian way, Kourt soon proved she didn’t need Scott by debuting a hot new body and a rumored rebound with Justin Bieber.
Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt
In September, “Mad Men” star Hamm and longtime partner Westfeldt announced they’d be splitting up after 18 years. While a specific reason wasn’t given, reports claim he wanted kids and she didn’t, and his drinking was interfering with the relationship.
Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green
This attractive pair had been together for 11 years (married for five) before announcing their split this summer. The couple have two sons (Noah, 2½, and Bodhi, 18 months.) Green is also dad to son Kassius, 13, from his previous relationship with Vanessa Marcil.
Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton
After four years of marriage, the two country superstars announced their split seemingly out of nowhere. As mentioned, Blake recovered nicely with Gwen Stefani, while Miranda racked up plenty of awards for her music post-split.
Ariana Grande and Big Sean
After plenty of public PDA, the The pop star cut ties with the rapper in Aril, after eight months of dating.
Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog
After 39 years together, these two felt lovebirds announced their split in August—right before The Muppets’ new ABC show debuted. It might have been a marketing ploy, but it also was a bonafide pop culture tragedy.
Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez
In October, it was confirmed that the Oscar winner and her French husband were divorcing. The couple share one child together, 2-year-old son Maceo.
Charlize Theron and Sean Penn
This one was especially shocking since Penn not only publicly referred to the Oscar-winning actress as the love of his life, but the pair were on track to tie the knot until Theron abruptly broke things off in June.
Lindsey Vonn and Tiger Woods
The pro golfer and Olympic skiier announced their split in May, citing their “hectic” schedules as the reason.
Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas
After 18 years of marriage and one child together, the formerly lovey-dovey couple finalized their divorce in July.
Kaley Cuoco and Ryan Sweeting
That was fast: After 21 months of marriage, “The Big Bang Theory star” announced she was divorcing her tennis player husband in September. Not that it was that shocking, as the two tied the knot after only three months of dating.
Yolanda and David Foster
Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star (who’s also Gigi and Bella Hadid’s mom) Yolanda Foster announced her split from husband of four years, music producer David Foster, in December. “Sadly we have decided to go our separate ways,” the couple told ET in a joint statement. “We’ve shared nine beautiful and joyous years together. During that time we experienced love, friendship and the inevitable challenges that come with managing a marriage, careers, blended families and health issues.”
