Bill Gates Reclaims Title of Richest Man in the World

Bill Gates has regained his title as the richest man in the world. It is a title that the founder of Microsoft hasn’t held since 2007.
Gates, thanks a surge in the price of Microsoft, now has a net worth of $72.7 billion, surpassing Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim.
While Gates is still chairman of Microsoft, he only owns about 5 percent of it. Microsoft shares are up 28 percent this year, while it has been estimated that Gates’ fortune has risen 15 percent.
Slim’s net worth meanwhile has dropped by about $3 billion due to regulatory issues with his company, America Movil SAB, the largest mobile-phone operator in the Americas.
Gates is not only known for his money, but also for his large-scale charitable work. He has donated nearly 40 percent of his fortune to his foundation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and he is the co-founder, alongside Warren Buffett, of the Giving Pledge, a worldwide campaign that invites millionaires to donate at least half of their wealth to charity or philanthropic activities.
