Still trying to regain your faculties after Beyoncé dropped “Lemonade” on the world this weekend? Well, better get a move on, because Bey rests for no one, and last night she kicked off her Formation World Tour in Miami, Florida.
Naturally, we need to talk about the costumes: Over the course of her set, the pop star made six costume changes, kicking the night off in a custom DSquared bodysuit featuring some of the same antebellum-inspired details we saw in the “Formation” video—puffed sleeves, a corseted bodice, and a matching wide-brim hat.
Performing the rest of the songs from the surprise album (plus hits like “Drunk in Love,” “Halo,” and “Bootlicious”), she changed into a white ruffled Balmain number that echoed the Victorian aesthetic that ran through “Lemonade”, a military-style Roberto Cavalli bodysuit paired with tiger-print thigh-high boots, a glittery silver ensemble, a red-and-white printed bodysuit embellished with sequins, ruffles, and pearls, and a red latex outfit (again with the puffed sleeves!) seemingly expressly designed for twirling on them haters.
If this isn’t a tour de force, we don’t know what is.
