Celebrities are steadily delivering us an endless supply of beauty inspiration, whether it’s when they strut onto the red carpet or decide to share a snap of their life on Instagram. We carry along pics of their impeccable haircuts to the salon and regularly look to them for a way to switch up a standard cat-eye. It seems like it would be impossible to pick a favorite, but each week there’s one celeb hair or makeup moment that really speaks to us. That’s the look that gets crowned our Beauty MVP.
It might not be a go-to for someone who’s weary when blending shadow, but we can’t deny the fact that Zendaya‘s pastel eye makeup at the BET Awards was one of the best celebrity looks that showed up on camera all week. One glance and your pink and purple shadow palette will seem 100 times more functional.
“Zendaya was inspired by the crystal embellished, iridescent shirt dress and pixie hairstyle she chose for the red carpet,” says makeup artist Allan Avendaño for Sephora Collection. From there, Allan says they chose “soft pastel shades that complemented the jewel tones of her dress,” worked on some contouring, gave her brows a boost, and went for a pink toned lip.
But if you plan on recreating Zendaya’s eye makeup, just know that you’ll need to grab at least a few different colors. After prepping her eyes with a primer (SO important!), Allan applied Sephora Collection Colorful Eyeshadow in Sweet Candy—a pink shimmer—to her lids, following with a matte deep purple shade on the outer corners of the lids.
The purple on the outer corners was topped with a shimmery blue, Sephora Collection Colorful Eyeshadow in Sweet Dreams, while a plum shade was added to the crease to give depth. To finish off the eyes, Allan used a white/beige shadow along the lower lash line and applied three coats of Sephora Collection Full Action Extreme Effects Mascara before adding in individual faux lashes to boost volume.
And those brows? They’re apparently the result of the skilled Zendaya herself, using the Sephora Collection Eyebrow Editor Complete Kit.
Her hairstyle—which she rightfully defended in the best way possible on Twitter—was equally as impressive. But does she really ever get that wrong?
The wig she wore was styled by hairstylist Tymothe Wallace for Motions Hair Care and took after a ’70s inspo. “We wanted to go for the Ultimate ’70s, Studio 54 look! This look is from an era way before her time, so we had a great time playing up on the glamour of the decade. Zendaya never shies away from changing up her look or taking a risk on the Red Carpet,” he says.
