There’s no such thing as the fountain of youth, so a militant approach to sun protection is the closest we’re going to get. It’s the only established means of fighting wrinkles, dark spots, and countless other signs of aging, and it’s also a pretty decent way to not get skin cancer.
Religious sunscreen-wearers need no further nudging to slather on the SPF every day (we salute you), even as the weather cools and the sun starts going down at 3:30 in the afternoon. But if you are among the reluctant, the begrudging, those who see sun protection as just another annoying step in a beauty routine, these five products will lend you a hand in defending your skin without the extra effort.
MAC Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation ($33)
Finally, a foundation with sunscreen that doesn’t go on chalky. You need only a few drops of this “gel-serum” formula to cover your whole face in a wash of sheer-medium pigment that conceals imperfections but still looks like real skin. Plus, in true MAC form, it’s offered in 23 nuanced shades.
Fresh Sugar Plum Tinted Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 ($22.50)
Nobody does the SPF-laden lip balm better than Fresh, whose cult classic formula comes in 13 flattering colors (and a clear version too). This winter-ready berry tint glides on smoothly and can be layered for deeper pigment if that’s what you’re into.
Murad Oil-Control Mattifier SPF 15 PA++ ($39.50)
The most common complaint about sunscreen, and products that contain SPF, is that they’re greasy—but that’s a nonissue with this shine-reducing moisturizer, which reduces breakouts, regulates oil production, and provides the hit of sun protection you need to get through the day unscathed.
Josie Maran Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47 ($32)
Conveniently, one of our favorite daytime moisturizers also happens to pack a powerful SPF punch. Hydrating, lightweight, and totally nongreasy—with a very pleasant satiny finish that plays well under makeup—this formula employs zinc oxide for natural protection. It’s so good, you’ll want to wear it for nighttime nourishment too. (We have.)
Caudalie Resveratrol Lift Face Lifting Moisturizer SPF 20 ($66)
When the preventive care of SPF alone just isn’t enough, try this firming day cream. It uses the much-discussed magic of grape-derived resveratrol, as well as hyaluronic acids and peptides, to create a “visibly younger” complexion. (We don’t know about younger, but definitely better.) The silky feel and soft-focus finish make it the perfect primer too.
