When it comes to switching up our beauty for Fall, every woman has a different approach. Some focus on cool-weather skincare, some come correct with vampy lips, while others switch our shimmery shadow for dramatic winged eyeliner. But for Whitney Port, whose hair and makeup have seriously inspired us ever since her days on The Hills, her Fall beauty philosophy is less about scoring a specific makeup look and more about health.

“I feel like for me, it’s all about taking care of my skin and my hair,” the Wella Professionals Hair Care celebrity ambassador told us. “I think that if you have moisturized and healthy skin and moisturized and healthy hair, you can achieve any beauty look. I’m not really one of those people who puts my looks into a box. There’s nothing specifically that I’m like, ‘this is how I’m going to look this Fall.’ It’s really about maintaining healthy beauty.”

It makes sense, too. Hairdressers have long stressed the importance of healthy locks—after all, how you can master a gorgeous braided hairstyle if your hair is damaged and breaking?—and we can all attest to the fact that foundation applies better on smooth, soft, and well-hydrated skin.

And how Port maintains those healthy standards couldn’t be simpler. Instead of trotting out a never-ending list of expensive lotions and potions, her beauty essentials are likely things that you likely already own.

“In terms of hair, I’ll sleep in a mask or put coconut oil in my hair once a week,” she told us. “And for beauty, I just keep my skin clean as much as possible. If I don’t have to wear makeup, I’m not wearing makeup. I’ll only wear tinted moisturizer. I think when traveling it’s important not to wear any makeup so that you don’t dry out your skin.”

When it comes to touching up her every day look, she turns to the wonder that is facial sprays, telling us that Avene Thermal Spray ($18, drugstore.com) is her favorite to keep her skin moisturized and dewy.

And as if she wasn’t enough of a beauty role model, Port told us that on any given day, she only spends about 5 minutes on her makeup. “All I really do is put tinted moisturizer on, brush out my eyebrows, maybe curl my lashes, put on some lip balm, and go,” she said.

We can’t argue with that kind of low-maintenance routine—and honestly, if it gives us hair and skin half as gorgeous as Whitney’s, we are completely on board.
