When we think of women we admire, Angelina Jolie is the ultimate. Whether in her role as an actress, filmmaker, humanitarian or mother, Angelina is beautiful, passionate, unafraid and dedicated—and our inspiration in every possible way.

This woman has been through some serious stuff in her life, and has not only come through it, but has literally dedicated her life to saving the world. And that’s not hyperbole: She’s worked with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) for over a decade, recently being promoted to Special Envoy; she advocates for immigration reform and education, both at home and abroad; she is a passionate crusader to end sexual violence, especially in conflict zones; and together with her husband, the Jolie-Pitt Foundation provides aide to humanitarian causes around the world. And that’s just a brief summary of some of her humanitarian work. The woman is basically a superhero.

And let’s not forget the other ways she’s changing lives: her powerful op-eds on both her choice to undergo a mastectomy in 2013 and surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes earlier in 2015 raised more awareness for breast and ovarian cancer than all the ribbons in the world. We love her for her commitment to making the world a better place though art and advocacy; that’s why Angelina Jolie is our Woman Crush Wednesday.

She's our glamour (and life) inspiration...click through for her very best looks!

Portrait session, 1991.
Wearing minimal makeup, 16 year old Angelina serves up a sunny smile in a very cute bowler hat. We can see her famous lips have always been very, very evident.

At the 1998 Golden Globes.

Peach lipgloss. Steel-blue eyeshadow. Slicked back pixie cut. The 90s happened to us all, but few of us looked as reliably good as Angie did. This was also the year she took home her first Globe for her role in George Wallace.

At the Oscars, 2000.
This Morticia Addams-inspired look wasn't all that well received at an event as glam as the Academy Awards, but in retrospect we salute Angelina for taking such a bold beauty risk on the red carpet. The long black hair and smoky cat eye are perfection.

Speaking of bold looks. Angelina is famous for her thin, arched brows, and we're not quite sure what was happening with these extreme drawn-on eyebrows here...but we respect her for making a very bold beauty choice and pairing it with her signature nude, slightly glossy lip color.

We'll be honest: though her hair is excellent, what we're really saluting in this picture is what Jolie is doing. Take it away, image caption: "United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie helps to build a hut for newly arrived unaccompanied minors on March 31, 2003, in Lugufu Camp, Tanzania, which hosts some 85,000 Congolese refugees." Dedicating herself to making life better for everyone: now THAT'S beautiful.

At the premiere of Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, 2003.

Long, wavy hair cascading down her back. Lightly pink-toned eyeshadow to draw attention to sharp black eyeliner. Elegantly arched brows. Nude lips. This look is TEXTBOOK Angelina, and we cannot get enough of it.

Once again, what Jolie is serving with her beauty is less important than what she's doing. Again, we take you to the informative caption: "Actress and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) goodwill Ambassador Angelina Jolie during a press conference August 24, 2003 in Moscow, Russia. Jolie visited several refugee camps in Ingushetia and Osetia in southern Russia."

We love Angie's subtle highlights, but the real stunner with this look is the double-flicked cat eye. We love the way it adds drama to, without overpowering, this very strong beauty look.

THOSE CAT EYES, THO.

At the premiere of Peace One Day, 2005.

Up until now, Angelina has strongly favored a glossy nude lip. However, in 2005 (which, coincidentally, is around the time she got together with Brad Pitt) she began branching out into brighter colors. And it's as majestic as you'd ever imagined.

At the premiere of The Good Shepherd, 2006.

At one of her first red carpets with partner Brad Pitt, Angelina wore her hair twisted up in this stunning updo. We love how its undone without being messy, and the addition of a metallic hair accessory makes it totally appropriate for the occasion. We also love how this piled-up style shows off her beautiful back tattoos.

Pregnant with twins (Knox and Vivienne), we love Angelina's big hair and slightly lighter, thicker eyebrows.

At the Oscars, 2009.

This is a perfect example of makeup being strong but not overpowering: anything more than the black liner, varicoloured brown eyeshadow and nude lips would have taken away from the GORGEOUS earrings Angelina is wearing here. Style note: always match your jewelery to your eyes. Noted.

At the Golden Globes, 2011.

This green dress was a stunner, but we also love the slightly golden-toned brown hair and more matte nude lipstick. Just goes to show that making even small changes to a signature look can have a big effect.

At the Golden Globes, 2012.

One of our favorite Angelina looks of all time. Note how she's matched her lipstick to the red slash on her gown PERFECTLY. This is a woman who really knows how to turn it on for the red carpet; she is meticulous in every aspect of her appearance, and we respect that.

This was the year of The Leg that launched a thousand ships. Beautywise, we ADORE this subtle tortoiseshell haircolour on Angelina, paired with a very dark smoky eye and bright red lips. So bold and stylish.

In Jordan, 2012.

Per our image caption: "UNHCR Special Envoy Angelina Jolie meets with refugees at the Zaatari refugee camp on December 6, 2012 outside of Mafraq, Jordan. Jolie said on her second visit to the region in three months civilians inside the country are being targeted. Many of those trying to flee are exposed to extreme danger right up to the border itself. Since her last visit to the region in September, the number of refugees in the region has increased by more than 200,000 and in Jordan alone by nearly 50,000."

At the Global Summit To End Sexual Violence In Conflict, London, 2014.

This summit was an absolutely massive event, and we highly encourage you to look into what it was about. Beautywise, we love how Angelina looks utterly professional and put-together, while still having a little fun with a baby pink lipstick.

Winning the award for Favorite Villain at the Nickelodeon Kid's Choice Awards, 2015.

Being smothered with hugs by Zahara and Shiloh/John Jolie-Pitt, Angelina won the coveted orange blimp for her portrayal of Maleficent. In her speech, she said "When I was little, like Maleficent, I was told that I was different and I felt out of place, and too loud, too full of fire, never good at sitting still, never good at fitting in. And then one day I realized something, something I hope you all realize. Different is good." Best message ever.
