Though we love our big-name, fancy lady lip colors, there’s an entire world of underground lipstick brands out there worth testing. So if you’re ready to introduce a cool new product to your mainstream lineup, you’re in luck. These are the very best lip brands you’ve never heard of.
Winky Lux Matte Lip Velour ($13, winkylux.com)
This new lip product brand gets an A+ for the awesome, pill-like packaging, and things get even better when you actually try out their totally affordable matte lipstick formula. It has amazing color payoff and feels so soft on your lips—the brand’s “City” shade has quickly become one of our favorite berry hues. Best part about the entire company? While they currently have 15 shades of lipstick, they introduce a new color each month!
Smith & Cult Lip Lacquer ($22, smithandcult.com)
This brand is well-known for their gorgeous and uniquely named nail polish shades, but they’ve claimed success in lip gloss, too. It’s hard to find a lip gloss that’s not too glossy, but this has just the right about of dew and shimmer—i.e. you won’t look like you’ve yet to let go of 1999. We love using Smith & Cult’s Fade The Sun shade to create a natural-looking peach lip.
Bellápierre Cosmetics Cheek and Lip Stain ($20, bellapierre.com)
Dab a little bit of this natural mineral formula on your lips for a light hint of color or to create that “bitten” look. It’s a multitasking, so the tint can be used on your cheeks to create a natural-looking flush, too.
Touch In Sol Technicolor Lip and Cheek Tint ($22, sephora.com)
This is one of our all-time favorite lip stains. The liquid quickly dries into a super light finish. While we have nothing but good things to say about the formula, the applicator isn’t our favorite. It can be a little messy, so we dab on the product with the applicator and blend with our fingers.
Shien Cosmetics Silk Matte Lipstick ($18, shiencosmetics.com)
The creator of Shien Cosmetics designed the brand to cater primarily to women of color—so if you have golden and olive-toned skin, you’re in luck. The entire lipstick line is made up of eight super flattering colors (like this Red Lantern hue above!) that feel incredibly comfortable on your lips. Because while we want to wear lipstick, we don’t always want to remember it’s there.
