Breezy beauty is always our summer end goal, but the reality is often a lot less breezy and a lot more like “no breeze”—which is to say, rather sweaty. Short of opting for a hasty top knot or, uh, shaving our heads, there’s not much that can help us keep our hairstyles from surrendering to the heat. Pushed behind our ears, practically plastered to our heads—summer is the season of beach waves and braids, but sometimes getting your hair off your face is the most critical point of all.
That’s why we’re obsessed with the half-up top knot, which you may recognize as the standard hairstyle favored by most five-year-olds. The look has been given a second shot at life, and we’ve seen it on everyone from our favorite celebrities to just cool girls about town (and on Pinterest). With the height of summer fast approaching, it’s not hard to see why this hairstyle may just be the look of the season: It’s cute, it’s easy, it works on any hair length, and most importantly, it keeps your hair off your face. It’s the perfect way to show off those beachy waves you worked so hard for without suffering for it out in the sun.
The half-up top knot requires virtually no skill to achieve, but you may want to experiment with placement to find the best look for you. You can wear your bun perched on the top of your head right in front or pull it back a bit for a more relaxed look. Whatever you decide, we can almost guarantee that you’ll have found your new favorite summer hairstyle.
