The Easiest Way to Get a Flawless Side Twist, Sans Pins

In the dead of summer when the heat causes a constant state of frizz, we’re always on the hunt for that magical little trick that will make us look somewhat respectable each day. So, when we saw Jordana Brewster and Lea Michele at the Teen Choice Awards last night with twists, we knew they were onto something – LA is hot right now.  But even better? Somehow, Brewster’s twist didn’t have a single pin showing – and we had to find out how.

Hairstylist Kylee Heath of course let us in on her secret, and it’s pretty genius. To get the style, she pulls a small section of hair off to the side (for Brewster, she chose the right side) and recommends smoothing it down with an anti-frizz creme, like Kevin Murphy Easy Rider.

She then of course twists the hair back, but then she joins that twist with a tiny section of hair from the back, center of the head (right where she wants to secure the twist) and ties the two pieces of hair together with a small, clear elastic. “This was a safer and easier way to secure and conceal, since I wanted no pins to be visible,” said Heath.

Genius, right? This way you don’t have to worry about securing the pin tight enough in the front with an awkward criss-cross of Bobby Pins – instead your elastic will take care of all business in the back, and no one will be the wiser.
