We often purchase beauty products because of the pull quotes on the front of the packages touting the seemingly impossible results. Unless you’re especially thorough, you skip the ingredients list on the back of the package – a crucial mistake made by many. “Secret Beauty Ingredient” is our way of finding those beauty ingredients that are becoming staples in the beauty world, or sometimes even better – beauty breakthroughs.

With summer around the corner, the thought of citrus scents just sounds so appealing. Grapefruit is a wonder fruit when it comes to beauty and health.  Full of vitamin C, grapefruit encourages collagen production for younger looking skin.  It’s also loaded with citric acid, a powerful exfoliator.  It is even believed that grapefruit extract can reduce cellulite. Oils from grapefruit have a soothing effect on the body, which is why it’s showing up in lotions, scrubs, creams, fragrance, and more.

The antioxidants that are found in grapefruit will fight free radicals in the skin that can cause lines, wrinkles, discolorations and other blemishes that can make you look older than you are. Free radicals are elements that float throughout the body and your skin because they aren’t attached to anything. Wanting to be attached to something, they attack healthy cells trying to bind to the cell wall.  Antioxidants flow through your body and skin binding to these free radicals, giving them something to attach to and making them harmless.  The juice of grapefruit also has restorative properties that can help tone skin, even out skin color, and gently cleanse skin.  People with oily skin clear up quickly after they start using grapefruit cleanser and toner.
