It is a truth universally acknowledged: Reese Witherspoon’s beauty game is always flawless. At last night’s MTV Movie Awards, her beautiful makeup look stole the show as she presented the award for Best Kiss with her Hot Pursuit co-star, Sofia Vergara.

Reese’s makeup artist, Molly Stern, worked with Kiehl’s to create this incredibly fun, yet glam, beauty look. “Getting Reese ready for the 2015 MTV Movie Awards was a blast,” Stern told us. “This show is the perfect venue for us, as the hair and makeup teams go a little funkier than we do for other red carpets.”

The result? A subtly sexy smoky eye, radiant skin and bright lip that is perfect for spring—and easier to recreate than you’d think. Let’s break down Reese’s 2015 MTV Movie Awards look!

In this age of HD cameras, amazing skin for the red carpet is essential. Stern began by prepping Reese’s skin with Natura Bisse C+C Vitamin Complex Mist ($55) and Kiehl’s Iris Extract Activating Treatment Essence ($45), then applied Kiehl’s Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate ($58) and Chantecaille Rose de Mai Face Oil ($185). “This creates the most flawless canvas to build off of,” said Stern.

It would be a crime to cover up such amazing skin with super-heavy makeup, so Molly used Kiehl’s Skin Tone Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream ($37) to give Reese a sheer, naturally perfect look. Her pro tip? Custom mix your foundation so that it perfectly matches your skin tone. “I mixed the Medium and Light shades which worked perfectly, allowing Reese’s naturally great skin to shine through.”

She applied Kjaer Weis Cream Blush ($56) in Embrace (soft blossom pink) along the cheekbones for a hint of color. Stern then lightly brushed Christopher Kane for NARS blush in Starscape (matte neon pink) just on the apples of Reese’s cheeks for a bright pop of color. Layering cream and powder blushes is a great way to get cheek color that enhances, rather than competes with, the rest of your makeup look.

“I wanted the focus to be on Reese’s eyes,” said Stern. “By keeping her skin looking super fresh and natural, and the lips bright but sheer, I was able to keep the attention on her smoldering liner and bright eye color.”

She began by applying Dior Fusion Mono Eyeshadow ($31) in Taupe (shimmery, neutral light brown) across the eyelid, layering the darker NARS Matte Eyeshadow ($25) in Bengali (matte red-brown) at the lash line. Then Molly smudged Makeup Forever Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil ($19) in Star Black 1L (slightly shimmery true black) along Reese’s upper and lower waterline. “This gave a bit of a gritty edge to her otherwise fresh look,” Stern said.

Completing this look? Lashes, of course. Two coats of DiorShow Iconic Overcurl Mascara ($28.50) in Black gave Reese’s eyelashes lots of extra volume and intensity.

Let’s talk about Reese’s gorgeously glossy coral-pink lips. The shade in question? A custom mixture, of course! Stern applied Laura Mercier Paint Wash Liquid Lip Color ($28) in Coral Reef (an intense peach-coral) straight on to Reese’s lips, then layered ColourPop Hyper Glossy Lippie Stix ($5) in Juicy (sheer strawberry pink) overtop for extra shine.
