It was worth suffering through the wind tunnel on the West Side Highway to reach Rachel Roy’s Fall 09 presentation. Models were organized into color stories- white, grey, yellow, blue, and black. The clothes featured figure conscious layering in different textures. Velvets, wools, silks, and chiffons gave way to peek-a-boo cutouts and vintage lingerie inspired bras, elastic waistbands, and briefs.
Roy countered the vintage inspiration with ultra-modern styling. The hair featured blunt-cut wigs with choppy angles. Luminous skin was accompanied by the glossiest black lips. We spotted the makeup artist touching up a few models with pure black pigment and Bobbi Brown clear gloss. The look was a standout, and a clear nod to the Fall 2008 YSL runway.
