Behold the Showstopping Gold Lips on Prada’s Spring Runway

Rachel Adler

Metallics are nothing new when it comes to beauty, but gold-swathed lips? That’s next level for everyone whose name is not Kesha. Still, we’re rethinking our stance after seeing the gorgeous models at Prada’s Spring 2016 show.

Legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath‘s created mirrorlike golden lips for the models using actual 24-karat gold powder. Which powder, exactly, is a mystery at this point, but it was chosen due to the fact that it was the most reflective pigment she could find. (As “gold as it gets” she told Vogue Runway). The pigment was precisely tapped onto the lips, and the rest of the face was strikingly bare—no lashes, no filling of the brows, just dewy skin and a whole lot of glitz on their pouts.

Hairstylist Guido Palau also added to the look by creating what was referenced as “undercut” bangs. He took baby hairs and shellacked them to the models’ foreheads to frame the face.

The hair and makeup was showstopping for sure. If you thought it couldn’t get any more extravagant than 24-karat gold nail polish, try having actual gold on your lips–and not licking them.
