When we want to spice up a ponytail, our first thought is to wrap a piece of hair around the elastic. But with fine, straight hair, it can fall out in mere minutes.

However, Blake Lively recently showed us a simple trick to keeping the hair in place all day: tease or add texture to the piece being wrapped around your elastic. This creates a hold to the hair, so you don’t need a ton of bobby pins. Instead, you’ll only need one.

Here are some easy ways to add that texture:
1. Apply hairspray and scrunch the piece with your fingertips.

2. Tease the hair with a thin-toothed comb.

3. Spray the hair with a texturizing spray or dry shampoo.

And don’t forget, the rest of the hair should have a similar texture, so it’s voluminous all over.
