Each year, the Met Gala brings out the fashion elite – from SJP to Alexa Chung to Cara Delevingne, everyone who is anyone in the fashion world wants to attend this party. This year, to celebrate the China: Through the Looking Glass theme, the stars pulled inspiration from China for their looks.

There were hits and misses on the carpet of course, but the outfits always showcase the red carpet at it’s best – from SJP’s extravagant headpieces to Beyonce’s naked-ness (and sky-high pony). Click to see our favorite looks of the night, and let us know yours in the comments below!

Sarah Jessica Parker always brings her A-game when it comes to a fashion event, but can anyone pull off a headpiece like she can? This Philip Treacy stunner wowed us – complete with a smudged soft teal shadow and flowing waves, we're obsessed.

Diane Kruger rarely does anything wrong on the red carpet, and the Met Gala was no different. Soft waves were pinned back with a flower, and her look was complete with a bold red-orange lip.

Katie Holmes got everyone talking when she posted a photo of a "chop" on Instagram, but it has since been confirmed that she simply chose to fake us out and try out a wig for the gala. She rocked it, but we do prefer her longer locks.

Poppy Delevingne went with a sleek top knot and sultry smokey eyes (and a dress full of poppies) to make a statement on the carpet.

Anne Hathaway was already gilded in gold, so she opted for a less extravagant makeup look – which was exactly the right way to go. With a sleek side part (so that her hood could fit just right) and a soft rose lip, her perfectly groomed brows were actually what won us over.

Jessica Chastain also opted for a gold gown, but she stuck with her Old Hollywood Glam roots. Chastain opted for a glam faux bob and bold red lip to complete her look.

Kerry Washington's twisted updo was perfectly sweet to match the color of her dress – something we could almost do ourselves, and her glossy pink lips and soft smokey eye were understated and not "too" done.

Zendaya looked absolutely regal on the red carpet at the Met Gala, complete with her crown to accent her long locks. We love that she topped off the look with a nude lip and sultry, smokey eye.

Amanda Seyfried wore a gorgeous white gown with a refreshing dose of dark lips on the red carpet, one of the few to do so. Her middle parted, sleek bun helped to show off the back detailing on her dress as well.

Jennifer Lawrence, a host of the Met Gala, wore one of the most perfect updos we've ever seen. Seriously – you'll want to save this for your Pinterest boards.

Kendall Jenner rocked the red carpet in a side-boob baring gown, but we couldn't keep our eyes off of her sleek strands (so shiny!) and perfect cat eye.

Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen are Met Gala favorites, and their lived-in hair is always a must on our list. Ashley's half-up bun is officially the only way we want to wear our hair for the rest of the year.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is astonishingly gorgeous all of the time, we know. But the way she paired this sleek, side-parted hairstyle, deep berry lip and smokey eye together took our breath away.

Vanessa Hudgens went a bit retro glam with the theme, and we're here for it. Her faux lashes and major smokey eye are oh-so-fun, and the red lip to match her dress completes the look.

Rihanna cleared the carpet for her arrival (which was necessary given the size of that dress) but we couldn't stop staring at her cropped red bob and golden headpiece.

Between that jeweled dress and her elaborate high and curly ponytail, Beyonce closed (and owned!) the Met Gala red carpet with one of the best beauty looks of the evening.
