We love a good retro beauty look, from a winged cat-eye liner to Old Hollywood waves. That said, not all vintage beauty trends are for everyone. (Take, for example, the mullet that stars like Rihanna and Sandra Bullock on the cover of Vogue are trying to bring back—yikes!).

At the People StyleWatch Denim Awards, Maria Menunous was spotted on the red carpet sporting a ’50-style pompadour hairstyle, and we’re not convinced it was a hit.

The TV personality glammed up a French twist by twisting her hair all the way up to the hair line—adding a big dose of volume in the process—and finishing the look with a bold curl falling over her forehead. Maybe she was going for ’50s glamour, but the result feels a bit John Travolta in “Grease.”

Don’t get us wrong, the hairstyle is clearly a work of art, but we’re on the fence: Is it retro-fabulous or too over-the-top?
