Must-Try Mani: Emmy Rossum’s Lace Nails At The Met Gala

Shannon Farrell

From Anne Hathaway’s blonde makeover to Nicole Richie’s painted-on white hair, there was plenty of eye-catching material on the Met Gala red carpet, so nails didn’t get too much time in the spotlight. There was one mani, however, that we couldn’t take our eyes off of: Emmy Rossum’s lace and bejeweled nude nails.

Not only was Butter LONDON Global Colour Ambassador Katie Hughes inspired by the look of Emmy’s Donna Karan dress, but she actually used the exact same lace and crystals that appear on the Donna Karan dress (and which were apparently supplied by Karan herself). “Emmy knew she really wanted to incorporate the fabric from the dress somehow, but with a twist that gave it an unexpected edge,” said Hughes. “Together we decided to use both the fabric and the stones to create a nail that was both delicate and edgy.”

Although it has a punk feel, this is one look of the night we can actually recreate off the red carpet! Here are all the details on how Katie created the look in case you want to add a little punk into your beauty routine … without rocking a faux mohawk or bold black eye shadow.

Step 1:  Katie began by painting Emmy’s nails with two coats of Butter LONDON Nail Lacquer Yummy Mummy ($15, followed by a layer of Butter LONDON P.D. Quick Top Coat ($19).

Step 2: She then cut individual pieces of lace to perfectly cover Emmy’s nails and placed them down on the wet nails, letting the lace dry on top of the nail.

Step 3: Once the nails were dry, Katie placed crystals of different sizes at various spots on the nail, adhered with glue.
