As irony would have it, some of the most sun-sensitive areas on our bodies are the very same areas we wouldn’t know how to go about applying sunscreen to in the first place. Our eyelids, for example? We’ll just take some sunglasses, thanks. The thin skin on our lips, however, has no such luck—our lips are constantly exposed, particularly in the summer, when many of our beauty looks revolve around a neon lip and not much else. We don’t blame you if you wouldn’t want to forsake flawless lip color in favor of sun protection… so fortunately, you don’t have to. These lipsticks, balms, and glosses have got you covered, both in pigment and in protection.

Lip SPF-YSLYves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté ($36, yslbeautyus.com)
Who knew that one of our favorite luxury lipstick formulas had the added benefit of sun protection? We sure didn’t—which is kind of embarrassing, considering we’ve been repurchasing it for years. Packed with intense, long-lasting pigment, with a creamy texture that leaves lips feeling smooth, this top-of-the-line lipstick could only be better if it offered SPF 30 instead of 15. (We might be getting a little greedy.)

Lip SPF-BiteBite Beauty BB for Lips ($24, sephora.com)
We’re the first to admit that a lip balm is often just a lip balm, but this well-rounded take has much more to offer than most. The creamy, but not slippery, formula coats lips in moisture as it plumps and revitalizes, so even the most chapped lips can get a major makeover in an instant. The sheer shades are universally flattering, and the SPF 15 means you can wear them poolside totally stress-free.

Lip SPF-FreshFresh Sugar Petal Tinted Lip Treatment ($22.50, fresh.com)
Cult favorites earn their notoriety for a reason, and Fresh’s line of tinted SPF 15 lip treatments have long been hailed for their subtle, pretty tints—with buildable coverage, no less!—and superior moisturizing power, not to mention the SPF 15 protection. They’re our go-to lip product for any time we need hydration, sun protection, and just a hint (or more) of color.

Lip SPF-Neutrogena 2Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm SPF 20 ($8.99, drugstore.com)
This longtime standby is drugstore gold: it nourishes, protects, imparts color, and somehow manages to make lips look fuller, healthier, younger, and just… better, and the SPF 20 helps keep them that way, too. The natural rosy flush is perfect on all complexions, so this one is something you can grab off the shelf without a second thought.

Lip SPF-Lipstick QueenLipstick Queen Endless Summer ($22, lipstickqueen.com)
Leave it to the Lipstick Queen herself to formulated a lipstick that checks every box for our summer needs. These sheer, punchy colors really pop, with a smooth texture that makes them a pleasure to apply, and the SPF 15 is the thing to make them just perfect for hot-weather wear.
